Steve Bruce: Hull sloppiness gave Newcastle win

Steve Bruce blamed "sloppiness" after Hull were beaten 3-0 by Newcastle and admitted Ahmed Elmohamady's goal was a clear handball.

Hull have now lost three Premier League games in succession after goals from Remy Cabella, Sammy Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran gave Newcastle boss John Carver his first win.

The visitors took the lead five minutes before the break as Cabella was gifted a pass by the home defence just outside the area and fired the ball home with a powerful left-footed shot on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Hull had an equaliser ruled out for handball on the stroke of half-time after Elmohamady blatantly punched Gaston Ramirez's free kick into the net from close range.

Newcastle doubled their lead five minutes after the break as Ameobi collected Jack Colback's pass and fired home a thunderbolt from 25 yards out.

Magpies substitute Gouffran, who had only been on the pitch six minutes, added a third with 12 minutes remaining as his shot from the edge of the box took a deflection giving the diving Allan McGregor no chance.

Bruce was obviously disappointed in the result, and said: "I thought up until 30 minutes, till Newcastle scored, there wasn't much between us, but after that, there was a cardinal of errors for the other two goals we gave away and the sloppiness of us.

"I think we all have to take it on the chin and make sure it doesn't happen again."

Bruce believes the officials made the correct call in ruling Elmohamady's goal out for handball, adding: "It's a reaction, I'm not sure it's cheating. He knows he can't head it because it's too high for him.

"But I have to say the officials, they got it right -- which I was pleased about because even in the situation that we're in, we don't want to be seeing goals that are not worthy of being a goal.

"Fair play to the officials, the right decision was made."
