David Wagner says beating Man United a 'huge result' for Huddersfield

David Wagner called Huddersfield Town's 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday one of the top moments in both his career and "huge" in the history of the club.

Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre gave the Terriers a two-goal lead and Huddersfield held on despite a late Marcus Rashford header to beat United for the first time since 1952.

Wagner said he understood how important a result beating United was for his club, whom he guided to an unlikely promotion from the Championship last season.

"I live in Huddersfield so I know a little bit, maybe not 100 percent, how huge this result is for this town, for the supporters, for the chairman, for the board, for everyone who supports this football club," he said.

"I am totally aware that this is a very special moment. A huge result for small Huddersfield Town. I am aware about it and happy about it and proud about it.

"For sure it is one of the top three moments I personally have as a manager of this club. This is a very, very proud moment.

"We all know how huge this win is for us, that we have beaten Manchester United."

United boss Jose Mourinho was upset about the lack of desire from his side, and Wagner admitted he did not believe their opponents were in top form, either.

"In one game you can have a chance. If there is a chance, try to catch it," he said. "Today was our moment because we were at our best and maybe they weren't.

"Small Huddersfield have beaten Man United and it is one of the proudest moments in my managerial career. It makes me very happy.

"It's another chapter in the fairytale we started nearly two years ago. It has shown everything is possible in football.

"I have to make totally clear what are extraordinary and ordinary results for us. This was extraordinary, but we must stay humble."
