Manchester City set to face Houston Dynamo in May friendly

The Houston Dynamo will host Manchester City in a friendly on May 28, the clubs announced on Thursday.

Man City will play in Houston for the first time as part of the Dynamo Charities Cup.

The game is scheduled for the day after City face Toronto FC at BMO Field in Canada.

"We are delighted to play in Houston for the first time and have again the opportunity to play in the US in front of our American fans," Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano said in a statement. "We are all looking forward to visiting this great city."

Dynamo president Chris Canetti said the game is a product of a long effort to attract top teams to Houston.

"We've been working very hard over the last several years to try and land a team that has the stature that Man City has," Canetti told MLSsoccer.com. "This is going to be a big moment for the club and its fans. We've always said we want to deliver an opponent like this for our club and our fan base."

The friendly comes in the middle of the MLS season, and the Dynamo will play Man City's sister club New York City FC two days later.

"I don't think any of us could turn down the opportunity to play such an elite team as Manchester City, and that's a credit to the match," Dynamo coach Owen Coyle said. "It is a quick turnaround ... in terms of the squad that's something we'll look at very closely."
