U.S. defender John Brooks set for Hertha Berlin return after groin injury

U.S. defender John Brooks has resumed team training with Hertha Berlin after recovering from a groin injury that kept him out of action for two weeks.

Brooks, 23, missed Hertha's last three Bundesliga matches against Schalke, Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt but is an option for the upcoming Bundesliga match against Hamburg.

"John made a good impression, also in the one-on-one situations," Hertha coach Pal Dardai told reporters on Tuesday. "But we are also very satisfied with Sebastian Langkamp and Niklas Stark. We've now got a healthy competition there. Someone will have to suffer a bit."

Brooks, meanwhile, was quoted by kicker as saying he completed the training session "without any problems."

Five match days into the new Bundesliga season, Hertha have picked up 10 points and suffered their only defeat at leaders Bayern.

They host Hamburg on Saturday, and travel to Borussia Dortmund after the upcoming international break.
