Already-relegated Hellas Verona could be handed an additional €5 million if they lose to Palermo on the final day of the Serie A season, then stay in Serie B at the end of next season. As reported by mediagol.it, the new regulations for parachute payments to clubs relegated from the top flight, approved by the Lega Serie A in February this year, present an additional incentive to Verona to lose in Sicily on Sunday as they could miss out on a larger parachute payment if the Rosaneri join them in Serie B next season. Should Palermo win they would stay up, with Carpi joining Frosinone and Verona in being relegated. That scenario would entitle Hellas to an additional €5m should they fail to be promoted straight back to the top flight next season since, according to the new regulations, both Carpi and Frosinone will both receive just €10m for going down after only one season in the top flight, whereas Palermo, who have been in Serie A for two seasons, earn €15m. Any amount left over from a total of €60m is then distributed to the sides relegated after more than a year in Serie A -- in this instance Hellas -- in the event of them failing to gain promotion straight back. Palermo need at least to match Carpi's result on the final day of the season when they host Hellas, while Carpi travel to Udinese, to avoid relegation.
