Hannover's Niklas Feierabend dies aged 19 after car accident

Niklas Feierabend was given his first professional contract in February.

Hannover have announced the death of Niklas Feierabend at the age of 19 following a car accident.

Feierabend, who had only been given his first professional contract in February having trained with the first team during the winter break, died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Our deepest sympathies in these difficult hours go above all to his family and friends, it hits us all very hard," read a message on the Bundesliga club's official website.

"All of his teammates, the coaches, employees, fans and everybody around Hannover are in deep shock.

"Niklas -- we don't want to and we never will forget you."

The forward had twice sat on the bench for the Reds in the Bundesliga this season, although he never made his first-team debut.

Two other people lost their lives in the accident, which did not involve any other vehicles other than the one Feierabend was travelling in when it left the road and collided with a tree, according to the local police.

The fixture between Hannover's reserve team and Hildesheim was called off on Sunday.
