Former Atletico Madrid coach Abel Resino appointed at Granada

Former Atletico Madrid coach Abel Resino has returned to Granada for a second spell as coach, the Primera Division club announced on Monday.

Resino, 54, had been out of a job since partying company with Celta Vigo in the summer of 2013.

He replaces Joaquin Caparros, who was sacked last week following Granada's 6-1 aggregate defeat to Andalusian rivals Sevilla that saw them crash out of the Copa del Rey.

A statement from the club read: "Abel Resino is the new Granada coach. Granada have reached an agreement with Abel Resino until the end of the season.''

Resino, who guided Granada for six months before leaving the club in the summer of 2012 having led the team to avoid the drop, inherits a side that sits at the foot of La Liga.

Granada have managed only two wins in 19 league games so far and Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Atletico, their ninth loss of the campaign, left the Andalusian side three points adrift of safety.

Resinos' first game in charge will be on Sunday at Deportivo La Coruna.
