Medeama stay top in Ghana Premier League

Medeama have gone two points clear at the top of the Ghana Premier League after beating Wa All Stars to confine the former champions to the bottom of the standings.

Kwame Boateng scored twice from the penalty spot, while another brace from Kwesi Donsu helped the Tarkwa side to a 4-1 win at the TNA Park. The result makes it seven wins out of seven at home in the league this season.

While Medeama are flying high, Wa All Stars are struggling, having not won in eight matches and remaining bottom of the standings with seven points from their 13 games.

AshantiGold needed a 75th-minute goal from Shaifu Mumuni at home to Dreams FC to dislodge their opponents from second and stay in touch with the leaders.

Penalties decided the game between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Liberty Professionals in Dansoman. Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan delivered a pre-match talk to Liberty before they went in front from the spot after 14 minutes when Tuffour Frimpong slotted home after Amos Frimpong had handled in the box.

Kotoko were level eight minutes later through Frimpong, also from the penalty spot. Kotoko are fifth on 21 points, while Liberty are three points clear of the relegation spot.

William Opoku Mensah scored a 93rd-minute equaliser for Karela to earn them a share of the spoils at WAFA after Musah Nuhu had given the home side the lead.

WAFA are unbeaten in six games, but are still six points behind league leaders Medeama and two behind debutants Karela, who are into the top four with the point earned in Sogakope.

Eleven Wonders continue to impress in their first season in the top-flight, especially at home. They beat Berekum Chelsea 2-0 in Techiman through Benjamin Owusu and Abdul Salifu's first half goals.

Ebusua Dwarfs and Elmina Sharks were involved in a four-goal thriller in Elmina, with all goals coming in the first half. Mohammed Yakubu scored twice for the hosts, with Amos Nkrumah responded with a brace, including a second from the penalty spot.
