The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad has called on African football associations to increase their commitment to transparent with good governance.
African football has experienced a tough time of late, with major governance issues in both Nigeria and Ghana. Ahmed identified corruption as one of the major issues that governing bodies face.
"Football association leaders should run football well in their respective countries and avoid corruption because it remains one of the challenges," the CAF president told KweséESPN.
Ahmad also called for more investment in football from national governments in Africa to help grow the game on the continent.
"Football remains a top sport and it needs a lot of attention from all stakeholders. But the African governments need to increase their support to football projects like building better facilities that can help grow football better in their respective countries," he added.
"As long as we continue to have low standard facilities the other continents will continue to be way above us. The African governments should realise that through investing in football [they will receive] a lot in return. Football [can] build a strong image for countries depending on which directions are taken," reasoned the CAF President.
Ahmad has been pleased by the level of involvement and investment in football from Morocco's government, as an example.
"I like the amount of attention the Morocco government has given football. They have invested a lot and this is very important for the country in-terms of even increasing tourism of them," urged Ahmad.
Ahmad is expected to be the chief guest at the climax of the 2019 tU-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers for the CECAFA region on Sunday afternoon.
Hosts Tanzania will battle Rwanda in the bronze-medal play-off, while Uganda Cubs take on Ethiopia in the final.
The winners will join 2017 U-17 hosts Tanzania for the Championship that takes place next year in April.
