Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak's wobble continues

Hearts of Oak continue to wobble from one poor result to the other in Ghana Premier League action, while Wa All Stars are getting comfortable at the foot of the table following another fascinating weekend of football.

This is exactly the build up to a massive week that Accra Hearts of Oak would not have wanted.

They face their bitter rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday, but their confidence is in shreds with results consistently going their way.

On Sunday, they required a second-half goal from to draw 1-1 at home to Bechem United, and their struggles will add to their anxiety about their Cape Coast venue.

It also leaves the technical team with a lot of work to do before they face Kotoko.

The Phobians have managed just a single point out of a possible nine and look like a side still in the midst of a significant rebuilding process.

They are three points behind their arch-rivals and a further six points behind leaders Ashanti Gold.

By contrast, Kotoko's season seems to lurch between maddening extremes.

One moment they are not scoring enough, grinding out results, then the next they are almost flawless as they proved away in Wa against Wa All Stars this weekend.

Amos Frimpong and Frederick Boateng scored the goals for the Porcupine Warriors to keep them in touch with leaders AshGold and ease the pressure on coach Paa Kwesi Fabin, who only last week was reminding everyone that he is no magician.

Boateng, in particular, has come good at just the right time.

The goal against All Stars was his third in four games and provides goal-shy Kotoko with a viable option upfront.

Kotoko's fine showing was largely due to their opponents' struggles.

Wa All Stars are experiencing quiet a slump for a team that were league champions only two seasons ago.

The side owned by Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantekyi are bottom of the league and two points worse off than Liberty Professionals just above them having played two games more.

The club is paying the price for virtually shipping out an entire team, and the numbers have exposed them.

They have lost six of their nine games, scoring just four times, and can't seem to keep them out.

It's worryingly close to relegation form. One of the more intriguing sides in the league this term are Inter Allies, who have the best home record in the GPL and the worst away record too.

Their 1-0 loss at Ashanti Gold on Saturday was their fifth in five away games, and Kenichi Yatsuhashi's side have not scored a single goal on those travels either.

They've worryingly conceded ten, an average of two every game, but their fine home form is keeping them just above the relegation zone.

At home, they are markedly different, having won four of four, scoring seven and conceding none.

If the Inter Allies can improve their away form, then they should climb up the table, but if their strong performances in front of their own fans falter, they will be dragged into the bottom three.
