Burkina Faso peg Ghana back in CHAN qualifier

Ghana's Black Stars have boosted their chances of reaching the 2018 Championships of Africa Nations after securing a 2-2 draw away in Burkina Faso.

Accra Hearts of Oak star man Winful Cobbinah was the main man for Ghana, winning the penalty and setting up a second goal in a performance that gives Kwesi Appiah's side the early advantage ahead of the return leg in Kumasi next week.

Cobbinah set Ghana rolling in the first half when his free kick struck the arm of Abdoulaye Zongo inside the box. Saddick Adams stepped up to score from the resulting penalty.

Ghana held on till after the break, but the home side fought back when Sylla Mohammed pulled them level before Cobbinah set up Gideon Waja for Ghana's second moments later.

There was a last twist to the game when Burkina Faso pulled level through Iliase Sawadogo to leave the tie widely opened for the return leg in Kumasi.

Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is in no doubt it is advantage Black stars though.

"We gave up the lead twice which is not great but the Burkinabes put in great effort," he said after the game. "Hopefully we can finish this in Kumasi and qualify."
