ACCRA, Ghana -- The head of the Ghana Football Association says he has reported top-flight players to law enforcement agencies for investigation following allegations that they were betting on their own team to lose.
GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi said Tuesday the allegations were "a very dangerous development in Ghana's football."
The coach of a Ghana Premier League team accused his players of betting on their club to lose at the weekend, insinuating that players deliberately lost the match in question.
BA United coach Mohammed Gargo told Ghanaian media that supporters had informed the club's management that players were betting on the team to lose.
Nyantakyi did not name any players under suspicion.
Like with many professional soccer leagues, players and club officials in Ghana are not allowed to bet on games.
