Avram Grant: Ghana face tough draw at 2015 African Nations Cup

Ghana officially unveiled Avram Grant as the new Black Stars coach on Thursday, with the former Chelsea boss stating that his side face a tough group at the 2015 African Nations Cup in Equitorial Guinea in January.

Grant, 54, agreed a two-year deal with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) last week after a lengthy negotiation period.

The Israeli coach -- who previously managed his country at at international level -- was introduced to the press in Accra, and believes the Black Stars have a chance to win the upcoming tournament despite a tough Group C draw featuring Senegal, South Africa and Algeria.

"It is not an easy draw," the GFA reports him as saying. "They are very good teams. South Africa qualified unbeaten. Senegal is a good team. I saw two of Algeria's games at the World Cup and they were very good. It will be difficult for us but it will be very difficult for our opponent too."

Though Grant is targeting immediate success at January's tournament, he insists his main role is to ensure the next generation of players are prepared to challenge for top honours.

"My job long term is taking care of developing football in this country," he continued. "We have to put together a process that would result in our teams playing better football.

"Of course, we will go into every match at the tournament to win. A draw is not an option, but that is not the long-term goal. Developing football to make it better is the aim."

The 54-year-old -- who took Chelsea to a Champions League final in 2008 -- believes his side have the ability to play attractive football, though is mindful that he will need to strike a balance to ensure success.

"I believe in good football and good football means good technique but you need balance," he added. "The quality is here. If you look at the quality in this team the players know their lot so we will try to play attractive football.

"My theory is that we need balance. That when we lose the ball we don't concede goals.

"I am here for two years and three months and hope everybody will be happy with me. In the meantime we have targets and I hope I can achieve them so we continue."
