Germany fans were 'remarkable' vs. Northern Ireland - Thomas Muller

Thomas Muller has defended Germany fans following their 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Northern Ireland.

Some 2,000 Northern Ireland supporters outsung the Nationalmannschaft fans during parts of the match at Hannover's Niedersachsenstadion.

"I think our fans are way better. When you're from Northern Ireland and play here, of course it's a party against the world champion," Muller told RTL, adding that he was impressed with the way Germany's fans reacted during the goalless second half.

"We did not deliver a big show in the second half. Yet, I could hear our fans sing and applaud. I think that's even more remarkable."

Three matchdays into their World Cup qualifying campaign, Germany have collected nine points and scored eight goals while they have yet to concede.

While their 100 percent record is intact, they still have seven games to play to replicate the under-21s' achievement.

On Tuesday, the Germany youngsters finished their qualifying campaign for the 2017 European Championships with a 4-1 win at Austria and maintained their 100 percent record.

With 10 wins from 10 games and 35 goals to eight, Stefan Kuntz's side were never in danger of reaching the tournament in Poland.

"I am proud of this," Maxi Arnold, the 22-year-old captain, said on n-tv following the 4-1 win, adding that this "was only the first step."

"We know that it will be a different affair in Poland next year. And that's where it matters."
