Bastian Schweinsteiger's Germany farewell set for half-full stadium

Only 20,000 tickets have been sold for Bastian Schweinsteiger's Germany farewell against Finland at the Borussia Park in Monchengladbach on Wednesday.

Schweinsteiger, 32, is set to win his 121st and last cap for Germany in the 2014 World Cup winners' friendly against Finland.

However, the Manchester United midfielder is not likely to play in front of a capacity crowd as 20,000 of a total of 44,000 available tickets have been sold, a DFB spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

"I am looking forward to every single supporter showing up," Schweinsteiger said at a news conference.

Ticket prices at the Borussia Park range between €22 for the cheapest seats and €75 for the highest category. Reduced tickets are also still available for prices ranging between €18 and €55.

On Monday, Germany head coach Joachim Low had his say on the ticket situation ahead of Schweinsteiger's final match.

"It would be a shame for him if it's not a sell-out," Low told his news conference.

Low cited the restart of the Bundesliga, Borussia Monchengladbach's matches against Young Boys Bern and Bayer Leverkusen, the late kickoff and the end of the summer holidays as the main reasons for the slow ticket sales.
