Germany boss Joachim Low yet to decide on future after Euro 2016 exit

Joachim Low left his decision on his Germany future open following the 2-0 Euro 2016 semifinal defeat to France.

Germany performed well against the hosts but fell behind to an Antoine Griezmann penalty before the break, and the Atletico Madrid forward settled the match with his second goal on 72 minutes.

Low, who took charge of Germany after the 2006 World Cup, has two years remaining on his contract but, after the third semifinal defeat of his reign, he told reporters he needed time to come to terms with the result.

Asked whether Germany's showing at Euro 2016 could influence his plans, Low said: "Tonight I can't look ahead to the future, not even to tomorrow.

"It's certainly painful. That's not worth a thought tonight."

However, Low, who led Germany to success at the 2014 World Cup, had told ZDF after the match that he "thinks" he will still be in charge when Germany face Finland in a friendly on Aug. 31.

German FA (DFB) president Reinhard Grindel said he was confident that Low would stay on for the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.

"He is the World Cup-winning coach, and he'll definitely want to defend the title," Grindel said on ZDF. "I want to continue our path with him."

Low also said no plans have been made to review the team's performance in France, telling reporters: "In the build-up we did not talk about what we would do if we lost the match."

He added that he intends to get in touch with his staff and potentially some of his players after returning to Germany.
