Joachim Low's Germany future not determined by quarterfinal vs. Italy

Joachim Low has said his future as Germany coach does not depend on the outcome of their Euro 2016 quarterfinal against Italy on Saturday.

Low has been in charge of the Germany team since succeeding Jurgen Klinsmann, under whom he worked as an assistant, following the 2006 World Cup, and he has two years left on his current deal.

During the 56-year-old's tenure Germany have reached the last four of every major tournament, and they are currently the world champions after beating Argentina 1-0 in the 2014 World Cup final.

Speaking to Bild, Low has said that his Germany future does not hinge on the upcoming 90 or 120 minutes against Italy, a team they have not beaten at a major tournament in eight matches.

"No, I don't think that's the case. That's no match to decide my fate," he said, adding that the end of every tournament is also a "turning point."

"But right now that's no issue for me, all that counts is the match in Bordeaux."

Looking ahead to the meeting of two heavyweights, Low praised his players for working "incredibly focused but maintaining the necessary ease" in the build-up to Saturday.

"We are well-prepared and we all know what is awaiting us. That's why I am confident," Low said, adding that it will be crucial to "convert the few chances we will get into goals."
