Man United's Bastian Schweinsteiger feeling fit for Germany at Euro 2016

Manchester United and Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger believes that he could have played even more during the European Championship, having come off the bench three times so far.

Schweinsteiger had not played for United since March 20, having suffered from knee and fitness problems, when he made his first appearances at Euro 2016 on June 12.

He came on as an 89th-minute substitute in that opening game for Germany, and promptly scored, in a 2-0 win over Ukraine.

The 31-year-old was left on the bench throughout during the next game against Poland, but has subsequently been used as a substitute against Northern Ireland and Slovakia, emerging in the 69th and 76th minutes of those matches respectively.

Schweinsteiger was quoted by FourFourTwo as saying: "Of course, I could have played more against Northern Ireland or the other games, but it's the decision of the coach [Joachim Low]. I feel good, healthy and fit. You have to remember that I didn't play for many weeks, my rhythm is not quite perfect."

Germany's next game is a quarterfinal on July 2 against Italy or Spain, who face each other on Monday. Low's men have not conceded so far in any of their four matches at Euro 2016, but the United midfielder admitted it has not been the hardest run of games that they could have faced.

Schweinsteiger said: "We haven't played the biggest teams in Ukraine, Northern Ireland and Slovakia. Poland are a good team, but you know what I mean.

"At the World Cup, we perhaps had more difficult matches. But I do think that you have to be at the very best to beat a team like Spain or Italy."
