Germany injuries concern coach Joachim Low ahead of Euro 2016

Germany coach Joachim Low has said he is worried that several national team players are currently injured ahead of this summer's European Championship in France.

Germany internationals Bastian Schweinsteiger, Emre Can, Bendedikt Howedes, Julian Draxler and Jerome Boateng have all suffered major injuries in the last few months, and some of them are facing a fight to get return to full fitness in time for Euro 2016.

"The news I received lately have been rather unpleasant," Low told Sky on Monday. "Five players who could play an important role are injured. That worries me a bit."

Recalling the injuries carried by Khedira and Schweinsteiger ahead of their successful 2014 World Cup, Low added: "You have those problems prior to every tournament. I now hope that everyone stays healthy and some of the injured players return."

On Monday, defender Boateng resumed training at his club Bayern, having been unavailable for selection since suffering a groin injury in January 2016.

Low said that he is "looking forward to the Euros regardless of who will be in the squad in the end."

Wolfsburg midfielder Draxler, who impressed for his side in the Champions League but suffered a muscle injury at Real Madrid last week, said on Facebook on Monday that he "works hard" for his return. He wrote: "Every day counts because I have great goals this year."

Germany captain Schweinsteiger has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury by Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, but according to a report in Sport Bild on Tuesday is on schedule for a return prior to the tournament.

Liverpool's Can sustained a ligament injury in his club's 4-3 defeat of Borussia Dortmund last week, but hopes to be back in time for the tournament.

Defender Benedikt Howedes has not featured for his club Schalke in 2016, but resumed team training on Tuesday.
