Injured Bastian Schweinsteiger's hopes to play at Euro 2016 'not so good' - LVG

Bastian Schweinsteiger's knee injury has been described as "tragic" by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, who admitted that it will be difficult for the Germany midfielder to be fit for the Euro 2016.

The Germany captain sustained the problem 10 days ago while training with the national squad.

The 31-year-old had appeared in four games for United during March -- coming on as a late substitute in all of those matches -- having been out for two months beforehand with a knee problem sustained against Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Jan 9.

Van Gaal said: "It is a tragic injury because the expectation is not so good for him in respect of the European Championship, but you never know. I hope he can reach that, but it shall be difficult."

Schweinsteiger's injury took place before Germany had played a game during the international break, as they went on to lose 3-2 against England then recover by thrashing Italy 4-1.
