Germany squad includes first call-up for Schalke's Leroy Sane

Schalke forward Leroy Sane has earned his first call-up to the Germany squad for their upcoming friendlies against France and Netherlands, while Mario Gomez is also back in the fold.

Sane, who was part of Germany's under-19 squad in last summer's European Championship in Greece, has practically skipped the under-21 level in earning his first senior call with Germany coach Joachim Low wanting to take a closer look at him.

"We've already got to know him in our youth national teams and he is one of the positive emergences of the current season," said Low. "He's quick, technically strong and likes going one-on-one, while he has no hang-ups. We see his enormous potential."

Sane will be available to make his senior debut against France in Paris on Nov. 13 before linking up with the under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifier against Austria on Nov. 17.

Gomez will be available for both senior matches, however, after earning a recall for the first time since before the 2014 World Cup.

The 30-year-old has returned to form while on loan at Besiktas from Fiorentina this season, netting eight goals in 10 Turkish league appearances.

"When Mario's fit, playing regularly and has his rhythm and self-confidence, then he can enrich any side he plays in, including us of course," said Low. "He's now fulfilled these conditions. Mario's scoring goals again in Turkey and also in the Europa League, and he's got his self-belief back.

"I'm really delighted that he's put his injury misery behind him. He's earned this chance to prove his qualities and show us that he's an option for our attack."

Low has named four goalkeepers in his squad, including Paris Saint-Germain's Kevin Trapp, who has earned his first call.

"We're really pleased that we've got a few days to work and train intensively with these goalkeepers and also get to know each other off the field," commented goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke.

"We've had an eye on Kevin Trapp for a long time and we now want to see him in the national team.

"He's taken another leap forward since moving to Paris. Ron-Robert Zieler also remains in our focus, as do Bernd Leno and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is not with us this time due to an operation on a tooth."

Germany head to the Stade de France on Friday before hosting the Dutch in Hanover four days later, and Low hopes his side will be returning to the French capital for a more important occasion on July 20 next year.

"That is when the European Championship will be decided," he said. "It's a good opportunity for us to experience the atmosphere in this stadium.

"I'm looking forward to getting a taste of what we can expect in France in the coming summer."

Dortmund's Marco Reus was left out of the squad after suffering a muscle injury in the Europa League on Thursday.
