Manuel Neuer: Germany must improve in front of goal to win Euro 2016

Germany will have to rediscover their "killer instinct" if they are to have any chance of winning Euro 2016, according to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The world champions finally sealed their place at next summer's European Championship in France but only after a nervy 2-1 home win over Georgia in Leipzig on Sunday.

Germany topped Group D as a result but, having lost to Republic of Ireland three days previously, manager Joachim Low said he was "not satisfied" with their level of performance in their last two qualifying matches.

The home side once again missed a glut of chances on Sunday night, while Bayern Munich goalkeeper Neuer was busier than expected.

He was called upon to save Germany's blushes with a brilliant save from Georgia forward Tornike Okriashvili when the score stood at 1-1 in the second half.

"In training we score 50 goals -- one ball after the other flies into the net," Neuer told reporters after the game. "We need killer instinct in attack and are making life hard for ourselves."

There will be plenty of soul-searching within the German camp before they reconvene next month for friendlies against France in Paris and Netherlands in Hannover.

Low's side also have games against England and Italy lined up next March and Neuer believes they will have to improve significantly over that period if they are to challenge at Euro 2016.

"If you saw how many chances the others had, you'd think we were playing against France, Spain or Italy," Neuer said.

"At the European championships it will have to be different. Hopefully we can find our game and play like people know the German team can."
