Ex-Man United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler confident over Germany role

Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler does not feel he is at any disadvantage playing for the Lower Saxony club when it comes to selection for Germany.

Zieler's status as No. 2 behind Manuel Neuer for Die Nationalmannschaft could be put to the test this season by the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Kevin Trapp and Bernd Leno.

They have the advantage of playing in the Champions League for their clubs -- Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayer Leverkusen respectively -- but Zieler does not think that should mean he will lose his place in Joachim Low's World Cup-winning squad.

"Of course I still think I can [be Germany's No. 2]," the 26-year-old told NDR television. "I had a really successful time with Hannover in the Europa League not that long ago too."

The chances of the former Manchester United trainee playing in Europe again in the near future do not seem particularly high, however.

After only narrowly avoiding relegation last term, Hannover have started the new campaign with three defeats and one draw and are currently third from the foot of the Bundesliga table.

Zieler has conceded 10 goals already, with only Stuttgart and Borussia Monchengladbach letting in more.
