Germany 'where we wanted to be' after solid showing vs. Poland - Muller

Germany were relieved and satisfied after moving to the top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group D on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Poland, which sees them move to within touching distance of a place in France next summer.

With Scotland losing to Georgia, Germany can now secure a top-two finish when they travel to Glasgow on Monday.

Things could have looked completely different in the group had Germany failed to gain revenge for a defeat in Warsaw last October, which is why there was such a blend of emotions.

"We're relieved to have won,'' said Thomas Muller, scorer of the opener. "I would have liked it if we had been a bit more stable and not wasted so many balls, but all in all we're happy to have beaten our strongest rivals in the group.

"Now we're top of the group and that's where we wanted to be.''

Coach Joachim Low added on the German Football Association's (DFB) website that his side went into the game with "just one aim: to win''.

"That was the all-important thing,'' Low added. "So I can be very satisfied on the whole.''

Midfielder Toni Kroos warned his teammates not to get too carried away, however.

Poland are still just two points behind in second while Scotland are not out of the running yet either, with a five-point deficit which means things could still change dramatically at Hampden Park on Monday.

"We've got to be warned,'' Kroos said. "Scotland are difficult opponents.

"There were times that we invited Poland to shoot and that's something we must improve, although we did a pretty good job on the whole.''
