New Real Madrid signing Toni Kroos says he is enjoying his start to life at the Bernabeu, after his side beat Sevilla 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup. (1:23)

Toni Kroos has been named as Germany supporters' Player of the Year ahead of former Bayern Munich colleague Manuel Neuer -- who only finished third despite his Ballon d'Or nomination -- and Miroslav Klose.

- VOTE: Third best player in the world?

Kroos, 25, was honoured by fans of the Germany team, the German FA (DFB) announced on Friday.

An enormously successful 2014 saw him win the domestic double with Bayern and lift the World Cup in Brazil before triumphing in the Club World Cup and European Super Cup with his new club Real Madrid.

Speaking to the German FA website about the Germany supporters' accolade, he said: "It means a lot to me because it was voted for by fans.

"This year will always be a highlight of my career. To be voted Germany's best player in a World Cup-winning year tops it all off."

Meanwhile, Lukas Podolski and Germany coach Joachim Low have backed Neuer for the Ballon d'Or -- the winner is announced on Monday -- with Low telling Bild that any other outcome "would disappoint me."

Podolski tweeted: "I want to voice my support for Manuel Neuer in the race for the Ballon D'or -- what more do you need to do to win?"

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer told DPA: "If he can't win it now as a World Cup winner, and with how he played during that tournament, then I just don't know any more."
