Toni Kroos: Germany won't be looking for revenge in Spain friendly

Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has said Tuesday's friendly against Spain in Vigo is not about the chance of revenge for defeats in the 2008 European Championship final and the 2010 World Cup semifinal.

Kroos was a substitute as Joachim Low's side lost 1-0 in 2010 -- the same score by which Germany had been beaten in the European final two years earlier.

But the Real Madrid midfielder, a key player as Germany succeeded Spain as World Cup winners this year, was reported as saying by AS: "We are not looking for revenge.

"We would have liked to play Spain at the last World Cup in Brazil, because they are one of the most attractive opponents in world football, but it was not to be. I like their style."

Both Low and Spain counterpart Vicente del Bosque are likely to play much-changed teams at Celta Vigo's Balaidos ground, with Kroos acknowledging that Spain were in transition.

"For me, it is easier to talk about Real Madrid than the national side," he said. "I have not seen them play recently, but I know they have lost key players like Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez."

Del Bosque, meanwhile, has warned Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas that they would not be guaranteed places in his team when they return to the squad after injuries.

The two played no part in Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus, which ended in a 3-0 victory, and will also sit out Tuesday's friendly against Germany after reporting hamstring and groin problems respectively.

Both Costa and Fabregas had played for Chelsea in their 2-1 win at Liverpool, raising questions from some in Spain about their commitment to the national team.

But Spain captain Iker Casillas dismissed such claims at his pre-match news conference, saying: "The commitment is total. I am sure that those who are not here are also fully committed. The commitment of the 23 and the others who could not come could not be bigger."

Asked which Germany player he liked, the Real Madrid goalkeeper told reporters: "I am a big fan of Thomas Muller. He is a different type of player, and in some ways he reminds me of Raul."

Casillas, 33, is likely to win his 160th cap, skippering a side that could include Celta's Nolito, who would make his debut, as well as Raul Garcia, Juan Bernat and Alvaro Morata.

Del Bosque told his pre-game news conference he aimed to give playing time to those who had not featured in Saturday's win over Belarus.

"We will try so that tomorrow almost all of those play who have not played yet," he said. "The concept of play must not change.

"We got three very important points, but it is important to point out that we played very well in spells.

"The year is ending and during my spell in charge we have learned how to win and how to lose. We are preparing for the future as well as we know."
