Germany win U19 European title

Germany's under-19 team added to the country's glory this summer by edging Portugal 1-0 for the under-19 European championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday night.

Hany Mukhtar's 39th-minute goal was enough to give Germany their second U19 title, in addition to the World Cup the senior team won earlier this month.

Hany Mukhtar scored in the 39th minute when Marc Stendera found him at the near post with a low cross.

Domingos Duarte saved a late Portugal attempt off the line to preserve the victory.

"The team definitely deserved to win this trophy," said German coach Marcus Sorg, "Over the tournament, and also today, we put in some very good performances.

"We should have made the game safe by 60 minutes; Portugal came back at us, they're a very good team and they made it very difficult for us -- but overall I'm very happy to be the winners at the end of the day. I think it was deserved."
