Shinji Kagawa brace helps Dortmund advance in DFB Pokal; Hamburg win

Shinji Kagawa scored twice for Dortmund on Monday.

Borussia Dortmund eased into the second round of the DFB Pokal with a comfortable 3-0 win at Eintracht Trier on Monday night.

Shinji Kagawa gave last season's beaten finalists an early lead before adding a second in the 33rd minute against the fourth-tier club.

Andre Schurrle completed the win on the stroke of half-time thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second assist.

Aubameyang was earlier denied by the far post after lifting the ball over Trier keeper Chris Keilmann. He also struck the crossbar with a header in the second half, when Dortmund's intensity dropped after a disciplined first half.

Keilmann made a great save to deny Adrian Ramos, while Aubameyang and new signing Emre Mor also went close.

Elsewhere on Monday, Alen Halilovic marked his Hamburg debut with the winning goal in Zwickau.

The 20-year-old summer recruit from Barcelona sprang from the bench for the final half an hour and made a telling contribution with a fine finish in the 70th minute.

It was enough to earn Hamburg, who had dominated the game in front of a sell-out crowd of 10,134 in Zwickau's brand new stadium which was used for the first time on Monday, a 1-0 victory and a place in the second round.

Salif Sane secured a late victory for second-division Hannover at fourth-tier Kickers Offenbach, converting a penalty in stoppage time after extra time for a 3-2 win.

Stefano Maier conceded the spot kick in the final minute for a foul on Hannover's Felix Klaus as both sides finished with 10 men.

Meanwhile, Sandhausen came from behind to beat third-tier Paderborn 2-1.

The draw for the second round, where sides from below the top two divisions will automatically enjoy home advantage, will take place on Friday evening.
