Augsburg survive scare in opening round of DFB-Pokal

Augsburg were given a scare by fourth-division Elversberg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Friday evening, only triumphing 3-1 only after their hosts were reduced to 10 men and after extra time.

Raul Bobadilla earned the Bavarians, who qualified for the Europa League last season, a second bite of the cherry with his 83rd-minute equaliser before Elversberg were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of full-time.

Sascha Molders struck towards the end of the first half of extra time before Tobias Werner added a third to take Markus Weinzierl's side through to round two.

Meanwhile, Bundesliga newcomers Darmstadt survived their first test as a top-flight club by overcoming fourth-division TuS Erndtebruck.

Two early goals from Marco Sailer and Dominik Stroh-Engel eased any worries Darmstadt might have had before Marcel Heller, Stron-Engel again and Konstantin Rausch completed a comfortable 5-0 victory for a side who will make their return to the Bundesliga after a 33-year absence next weekend.

Erndtebruck, who were promoted from the fifth tier last season, were entering the German Cup field for the very first time.

Finally, FSV Frankfurt from the 2. Bundesliga also overcame fourth division opponents, beating BFC Dynamo of Berlin 2-0 with Edmond Kapllani and Zlatko Dedic grabbing the goals.

The rest of the first-round fixtures will take place over the weekend with holders Wolfsburg travelling to Stuttgarter Kickers on Saturday while Bayern Munich head to Nottingen, one of the lowest-ranked sides in the first round, on Sunday.
