Schalke escape Pokal test at Dynamo Berlin; fan disruptions mar Hertha win

Former East German champions Dynamo Berlin made it difficult for Schalke in the first round of the DFB-Pokal before the Bundesliga side finally prevailed 2-0 on Monday.

Dynamo, who won 10 successive East German titles between 1979-88 amid allegations of match-fixing and politically influenced favors, fared badly after German reunification and now play in the fourth tier.

In front of 14,000 spectators at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin, Dynamo did Schalke no favours and the top-flight...

The ESPN FC panel delve into John Brooks' record transfer from Hertha Berlin to VfL Wolfsburg.

United States international John Brooks was taken off with a thigh problem just 37 minutes into his competitive debut for Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg, the 2015 DFB Pokal winners, secured their passage to the second round of the competition on Sunday with a 1-0 win at Eintracht Norderstedt thanks to Ignacio Camacho's second-half strike.

At that point, Wolfsburg were already without Brooks, who was forced to leave the pitch with an injury eight minutes from the half-time whistle.

Hamburg SV, Augsburg crash out to minnows in DfB Pokal

Bobby Wood and Hamburg crashed out of the DFB-Pokal at the hands of 3.Liga side Osnabruck, who played 70 minutes with 10 men.

Even against 10 men from the third division, Hamburg SV couldn't get past the German Cup's first round.

VfL Osnabruck beat the Bundesliga side 3-1 on Sunday to repeat its 2009 feat, when it defeated Hamburg on penalties.

There was no need for penalties this time as Osnabruck -- which is yet to win after four games in the third division -- again spoiled Hamburg's start to the season.

The home team played with 10 men for more than 70 minutes after defender Marcel Appiah was sent off for a foul on Bobby...
