Bayer boss Heiko Herrlich asked to explain touchline tumble to German FA

Bayer Leverkusen coach Heiko Herrlich has been asked by the German Football Association to explain his comical touchline tumble during Wednesday night's match with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Herrlich collapsed theatrically and belatedly to the ground after the slightest of nudges from Gladbach's Denis Zakaria as the midfielder went to collect the ball after it went out of play by the dugouts.

Leverkusen won the DFB-Pokal clash 1-0, but their coach could find himself in hot water.

A statement from the German FA said its control committee had reviewed Herrlich's conduct.

It added: 'It is suspected that the coach of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen has fallen following a bump from Gladbach player Denis Zakaria on the edge of the technical area and in doing so has behaved in an unsporting fashion.

"The control committee has now written to Herrlich and asked for his opinion. After receiving and evaluating the opinion the control committee will then decide how to progress with the matter.''

Herrlich has already apologised for his behaviour.

"That certainly looked stupid,'' he was quoted as saying by Kicker.
