Hoffenheim stun Bayern Munich while Dortmund are held by 10-man Freiburg

Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday as Hoffenheim triumphed 2-0 to stay unbeaten through three games.

Mark Uth scored both goals for the hosts, who moved up to second place, just behind Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.

After Robert Lewandowski saw an early effort clip the woodwork, it was the hosts who stepped things up as Uth made the most of a quickly-taken throw-in to open the scoring after 27 minutes.

Uth later finished off a fine team move to double Hoffenheim's lead five minutes into the second half.

Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti had rotated his squad, with one eye on next week's Champions League opener against Anderlecht, and despite sending on Arjen Robben, James Rodriguez and Franck Ribery for the closing stages, the champions could not find a way back into the match.

Ten-man Freiburg halted Dortmund's promising start to the season in a goalless draw and also added to BVB's injury list.

Dortmund defenders Marc Bartra and Marcel Schmelzer both went off in the first half and are doubtful for the Champions League opener at Tottenham on Wednesday.

Tim Kleindienst had the best early chance for Freiburg but failed in a one-on-one with Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki.

Dortmund dominated possession afterward but lost Bartra and then Schmelzer as the home side pulled no punches.

French midfielder Yoric Ravet was sent off on his Bundesliga debut for a cynical challenge on Schmelzer after referee Benjamin Cortus consulted with his video assistant. Cortus at first showed a yellow card but TV replays showed Ravet stamped on Schmelzer's right ankle.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich applauded sarcastically, but Schmelzer was unable to continue. He was replaced by new signing Dan-Axel Zagadou.

Down to 10 men, the hosts sat back, stayed compact and defended with every man they had.

Dortmund are yet to concede a goal after three games but dropped points for the first time.

Hannover are also unbeaten following their 1-1 draw at Wolfsburg.

Daniel Didavi's free kick early in the second half put the home side ahead, but Hannover secured a point with 15 minutes left through a close-range effort from Martin Harnik.

Augsburg beat point-less Cologne 3-0 at the WWK Arena where Iceland forward Alfred Finnbogason grabbed a hat trick.

Finnbogason headed the home side into the lead on 21 minutes and doubled the lead 10 minutes later from the penalty spot.

The Iceland international saw a shot hit the woodwork before completing his treble in stoppage time when slotting in an angled drive after Sergio Cordova's effort had come back off the base of the far post.

Eintracht Frankfurt won 1-0 at Borussia Monchengladbach, with a goal on 13 minutes from Kevin-Prince Boateng proving enough for all three points.

The Ghana midfielder had to go off early in the second half. He received treatment toward the end of the first after receiving a blow from Jannik Vestergaard's elbow.

Mainz recorded their first Bundesliga win of the season with a 3-1 home success against Bayer Leverkusen.

Dominik Kohr had put the visitors ahead on 22 minutes but Japan midfielder Yoshinori Muto equalised on the stroke of half-time with an acrobatic effort at the far post.

Abdou Diallo put Mainz ahead when he nodded in a free-kick just before the hour, with Suat Serdar drilling in a third from 20 yards on 71 minutes.
