Marco Fabian is 'one of the key figures in Frankfurt's squad' - Niko Kovac

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac has praised Mexico international Marco Fabian as "special" after his goals secured their first win in 10 matches.

Frankfurt were trailing struggling Augsburg 1-0 deep into the second half when Fabian turned around Frankfurt's fortunes with a brace. Three minutes into stoppage time, Ante Rebic sealed the 3-1 win, their first in the Bundesliga since a 2-0 win against bottom club Darmstadt in early February.

"This was down to all the people in the stadium. The support is always incredible, and they spurred us on time and time again," Fabian, 27, told reporters following the win, which saw Frankfurt edge closer to the Europa League qualification spots instead of dropping into the relegation fight.

Former Croatia international Kovac praised his midfielder, who missed large parts of 2017 so far with a back injury, and said Mexican players "have something special in their genes. I played against Mexico a few times and know what I am talking about."

He added: "Marco leads the way on and off the pitch with his way of doing things. That's why he is one of the key figures in our squad."

Fabian has scored seven goals for Frankfurt, with four of them coming in the last three matches, and has set up a further four goals.
