Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl signs new contract

Max Eberl is linked with a move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Bayern Munich.
Max Eberl has been at Borussia Monchengladbach since 2008.

Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl is staying with the club, ruling him out of contention for the same role with champions Bayern Munich.

Gladbach said Eberl, who has held the position since 2008, had signed a new deal until June 2022.

The 43-year-old had been favourite to take over at Bayern after Matthias Sammer stepped down in July last year.

Bayern defender Philipp Lahm, retiring from playing at the end of the season, has also turned down the role.

Eberl said there had been "a lot of rumours and speculation about me in the last months" but added: "Borussia Monchengladbach is my club."
