Borussia Dortmund would block Real Madrid move for Thomas Tuchel

Borussia Dortmund would block any Real Madrid approach for coach Thomas Tuchel, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said.

Watzke said last week that Dortmund are planning contract talks with Tuchel, whose current deal expires in 2018, but added that the 43-year-old is "highly regarded" at the Bernabeu.

Speaking to ZDF at the weekend, Watzke reiterated that he has a "good rapport" with Madrid -- whose current coach Zinedine Zidane secured the Champions League last season -- and said: "I believe they have eyed him [Tuchel]."

However, he added: "Thomas is under contract here, and we can surely say no should Real want him.

"It's not like with a player who will be 28 or 29 one day and you block a great chance. Thomas is still young -- he could still coach Real in 20 years."

Tuchel replaced Jurgen Klopp as Dortmund boss in the summer of 2015 after taking a year-long hiatus from football following his breakthrough years at Mainz.

Tuchel, whose side finished runners-up in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal last season, said he was delighted to hear about Watzke's comments.

"BVB are a great club, I feel fine here," Tuchel told Sky. "Aki Watzke is on my side. You couldn't have it much better as a young coach."

Dortmund, who drew 3-3 with Ingolstadt on Saturday, are currently sixth in the Bundesliga table, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
