Werder Bremen youngster Johannes Eggstein signs new three-year deal

Sought-after Werder Bremen youngster Johannes Eggstein has signed a three-year deal, the club have announced.

Eggstein, 18, has scored 33 goals in 26 matches for Bremen's under-19 side and has been linked with Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

The forward has been top scorer in the youth Bundesliga for the past three seasons, and won the Silver Boot at last year's Under-17 World Cup in Chile.

His record has seen him linked with several clubs, but on Thursday he opted to stay at Bremen and continue his development.

"Werder is a special club and, due to its experience with young players and its concepts, has great opportunities for my development," he told the club's official website after signing until 2019.

"I want to keep developing step by step and get my first taste of professional football," Eggstein, who will follow his brother Maximilian, 19, into the Bremen team, added.

Werder sporting director Frank Baumann said: "We are very happy that Johannes has decided stay on at Werder.

"He has proven that he's got enormous talent in the past few years, impressing in our performance centre and in the Germany youth set-up."
