Stuttgart boss Alexander Zorniger losing patience with Timo Werner

Stuttgart coach Alexander Zorniger has hit out at Timo Werner, insisting he is not the forward's "nanny."

Werner, 19, was a reported target for Tottenham in the summer, although the Premier League club eventually opted to bring in the more experienced Bayer Leverkusen attacker Son Heung-Min instead.

Werner, who became Stuttgart's youngest ever player when making his debut in August 2013 aged 17 years and 164 days, is under contract at the Bundesliga club until 2018.

He has failed to earn a start for the side this season and -- after scoring in Germany under-21's 2-1 win over Denmark -- was excluded from the match-day squad for the 2-1 defeat at Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

"I am not his nanny," Zorniger, who is under pressure following four defeats in four Bundesliga matches this season, told Stuttgart Nachrichten.

"He should not be satisfied with just making the squad."

According to Bild, Stuttgart tried to sell Werner during the summer, but nobody was prepared to match their €10 million asking price. The paper went on to suggest that Werner could leave the club in January.
