Jurgen Klinsmann could invite Hamburg right-back Ashton Gotz to the United States national team for the upcoming European friendlies at the end of March, the U.S.'s European scout Matthias Hamann said.
Gotz, 21, who does not currently hold a U.S. passport, broke into Hamburg's first team in September 2014, and has since gone on to make a total of 11 competitive appearances for the struggling Bundesliga giants.
His performances for the club have not only won him a professional contract at HSV, but also put him on the radar of U.S. head coach Klinsmann.
The former Germany international got on the phone with Gotz earlier this month, and the right-back could now be the next German-American to represent the stars and stripes.

During a phone call, Klinsmann assured Gotz, who is the son of a U.S. serviceman, that U.S. Soccer would help the right-back to get a passport, the player's agent, Bjorn Gerke, told ESPN FC earlier this week.
"He is a physical player, who's got a lot of speed and also has a great speed of execution," Matthias Hamann, the U.S. scout for Europe, told Hamburger Morgenpost on Friday.
Even though it is still unclear whether the authorities will grant Gotz the necessary documents before the upcoming U.S. friendlies in Denmark and Switzerland at the end of March, the Hamburg right-back could be invited to join the U.S. team for training.
"He could get used to the surroundings, so that it isn't new to him later," Hamann said about Gotz.
Gotz told the paper he has only been stateside twice, once for a youth tournament in Chicago, and once "visiting my uncle."
