Hamburg coach says sorry to fans after 8-0 thrashing at Bayern Munich

Hamburg coach Josef Zinnbauer has apologised to the club's supporters after their 8-0 Bundesliga hammering at Bayern Munich, saying he will "never forget" the humiliation.

The visitors had won their previous two matches but came away from Munich dazed after a second drubbing there in recent years, having lost 9-2 at the Allianz Arena in 2013.

"It's one of those days that I am never going to forget for the rest of my life -- not because it was Valentine's Day but because it was such a bad result,'' Zinnbauer told his postmatch news conference.

"I think when you lose 8-0, there's not much to say. Maybe all we can do is apologise to the fans. Six thousand of them came here and saw us lose 8-0.

"It's incredible for me. We were up against a side who could do what they wanted to.''

Hamburg kept their hosts at bay for 20 minutes until a Thomas Muller penalty opened the scoring.

That goal saw the visitors collapse as Muller, Arjen Robben and Mario Gotze all grabbed braces and Robert Lewandowski and Franck Ribery also found the net.

"Overall, I think even the margin of victory was fair,'' Zinnbauer said. "I would never have thought we would have lost 8-0.

"I think anybody who plays football knows how it doesn't help morale when you concede, especially not when it then goes 3-0, 4-0, 5-0.

"Bayern are the best side in the world -- and while that still cannot be any justification for losing 8-0, we at least hoped it wouldn't go into double figures."

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg grabbed a late winner to triumph 5-4 in an astonishing game at Bayer Leverkusen to keep them eight points behind Pep Guardiola's Bayern.
