Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre said he has determined Fabian Johnson's favourite position following a reported spat between the U.S. international and the Swiss coach.

Toward the end of Borussia Monchengladbach's winter training camp in Belek, Turkey, the Foals' coach Lucien Favre voiced his anger over Fabian Johnson remarks earlier this winter. The 27-year-old had told Bild that his favourite position is at right back, on which he also excelled for the United States at the 2014 World Cup.

Favre explained that those comments left him irritated because Johnson, who joined Gladbach on a free transfer ahead of the ongoing season, told his coach "that his favourite position is in left midfield."

On Saturday, Fabian Johnson was the only attacking player to go the full 90 minutes in Gladbach's 1-0 victory at fourth tier club RW Essen. The U.S. player, in the absence of the injured Thorgan Hazard and Andre Hahn as well as African Nations Cup participant Ibrahima Traore, was played in left midfield, and scored the sole goal of the match in the 29th minute.

"I have talked to him again, and the left side is his favourite position," Gladbach coach Lucien Favre told reporters after the match.

And Johnson reiterated that he'll play everywhere as long he plays.

"I want to play. In the end the coach decides where he plays me. And when I go the full 90 minutes in Bundesliga like I today, I'll be delighted and I'll give it my all," Johnson told Rheinische Post.
