Former Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese set for WWE debut - reports

Former Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese is set for his WWE debut at the weekend, German paper Bild reports.

Wiese, 32, left his last Bundesliga club Hoffenheim in January, and has since undergone a transformation as he shifted his attentions to becoming a bodybuilder.

In September, the former Germany international caught the eye of the WWE, with the wrestling federation looking for a lead wrestler in Germany.

"I have an official enquiry from the WWE," Wiese told Bild at the time and, two months on, he is now set for his WWE debut.

Wiese is to take part in the WWE Live Event in Frankfurt at the weekend, reports Bild. However, Wiese will not step into the ring as a wrestler, but only as a show act between the fights, the paper claimed.

Earlier this week, the 117-kg ex-stopper -- who in early September briefly returned to the pitch during a testimonial match for his old Werder Bremen teammate Ailton -- told Sport1 that he was hopeful of something more permanent.

He said: "There will be talks [with WWE] in the next days. You need to listen to their plans. In Germany they smile at wrestling. But it's huge in America, a real hype. It's the No.3 or No.4 sport there. It's exciting and you earn a lot of money, too. And it's a show. Let's see what happens."

Wiese also told Sport1 that his days in goal were over. "I no longer care two figs about football," he added.
