Train strike threatens Eintracht Frankfurt-Bayern Munich game

The Bundesliga match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich could be called off because of a nationwide train strike in Germany, according to media reports.

On Thursday, the German train drivers' union began a four-day walkout over pay, their second in less than a month.

The action will affect the main celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, with more than one million people expected in the city, and is also set to have consequences across the weekend football schedule.

Saturday's match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern may now be rearranged, German football magazine kicker has reported.

With public transport now limited, fans of both clubs are set to travel to Frankfurt by either car or coach, and the magazine said: "Police and security cannot give any guarantees that 1,000 coaches full of supporters travelling to the game can be parked in the broader commuting area of the Frankfurt stadium.

"A definite decision whether the match will be played or not is expected for late on Thursday after talks with the German Football League."

The strike also affects away fans of most of the other Bundesliga sides, but the majority of the clubs have hired coaches to transport their fans, dpa reported on Wednesday.
