Nicklas Bendtner left out of Denmark squad amid loss of form at Wolfsburg

Nicklas Bendtner has been left out of the Denmark squad for the upcoming 2016 European Championship qualifiers, amid growing concerns over the former Arsenal attacker's attitude.

Bendtner, 26, was released by Arsenal this summer and joined German side Wolfsburg on a free transfer. The Denmark international has so far made eight appearances for the Bundesliga club, starting three of them, and has not scored or even been involved in any Die Wolfe goal as yet as the club have climbed to second in the Bundesliga table.

The striker's last appearance for Wolfsburg came on Oct. 5, when he was substituted after 75 minutes following an underwhelming performance in the 1-0 victory against FC Augsburg. Since then, Bendtner has not made the matchday squad once and, on Tuesday,

Denmark coach Morten Olsen did not call him up to the national squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers. Olsen did, however, leave a door open for the controversial striker as he still has four squad places left to fill.

"It would be a positive development for Nicklas if he were to play for Wolfsburg on Thursday [against Russian outfit Krasnodar in Europa League]," Olsen said in quotes reported by Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung. "I was told by Wolfsburg that Nicklas is in good shape and trains with the team."

Also speaking to the paper, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking insisted that Bendtner has been spoken to in the past about his attitude and that he is now looking to the future.

"We talked to Nicklas about his behaviour in various situations. He's now trying to get back into a good shape, and is not left out by the rest of the team," he said. "We now need to have patience. And I have it, because I see that he's implementing what we have outlined for him."
