Franck Ribery delighted after goal on Bayern Munich return

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery scored on his return from injury as his side beat Stuttgart 2-0 and said he was looking forward to getting back into the rhythm of first-team football.

Ribery, 31, last featured for Bayern in the DFB-Pokal final in May. He missed out on a place in France's World Cup squad through injury before announcing his decision to retire from international football.

While his decision to focus on Bayern and leave international football behind did not go down well with UEFA president and former France captain Michel Platini, it stands and has been discussed with France coach Didier Deschamps.

And speaking after his club return, Ribery told kicker: "He [Platini] can voice his polemics -- I am not really interested in it. I decided to retire, and people have to accept that. I won't reconsider this decision.

The winger came on for Mario Gotze in the 68th minute, and wrapped up the game with a late second goal.

"I was happy, and felt great relief. The goal did me good after the long injury break," he said. "I am just very happy to back on the pitch after all this time. But one thing is clear: I am not at 100 percent. I need games and rhythm, but step by step."

Meanwhile, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola urged his players to offer more help to Xabi Alonso, man of the match in the Stuttgart victory.

Alonso excelled in his role as Bayern's deep-lying playmaker and ran 11.82 kilometres -- more than any other Munich, and Guardiola told kicker: "Xabi is 32, and if he tracks back and forth all the time then he'll be dead in a month."
