Bellarabi: Quick goal part of our plan

Bayer Leverkusen's record-breaking goalscorer Karim Bellarabi says his quick-fire goal against Borussia Dortmund was nothing out of the ordinary.

The 24-year-old scored the quickest goal in Bundesliga history -- 52 seconds -- in Saturday's 2-0 win at the Westfalenstadion, and he said afterwards that it was all part of the plan.

"We always play the ball directly forward from kick-off,'' he said. "That's what we did again this time, and that is our plan. I'm delighted because of course this is something quite special for me.

"I didn't know (it was the quickest goal) when I was on the field. I only found out about it after the final whistle and I've got to wait for it to sink in. It's a great thing for me, but the most important thing is that we took three points from Dortmund.''

The win was a signal of Leverkusen's intent this season with one of the pre-season favourites having to stomach an early setback which already leaves them three points in the wake of Bayern Munich.

"We knew we were capable of beating Dortmund,'' added Bellarabi on Bundesliga.de. "We imposed our style of play for 90 minutes and that was decisive. We had the right mentality and that's why we deserved to win.''

Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp took the blame for his side's defeat, but not for the early goal.

"I have no explanation for that,'' he said to Sky. "But we were not active enough and we've got to accept that, or I have got to accept it. We've got to be more alert and that's something that I am responsible for.''
