Lewa nets a hat tick, Bayern crush hapless Hamburg at home...again

Thomas Muller may not have got in on the goalscoring fun but he was 'the best player on the pitch' according to Carlo Ancelotti.

Arturo Vidal opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a fierce right-footed drive, before Lewandowski's quick-fire triple (24, 42, 54) ended the game as a contest. Despite their star striker's substitution before the hour mark, the goal-fest continued as David Alaba tapped home a fifth and substitute Kingsley Coman added two more, before Arjen Robben scored the final goal with three minutes remaining.

Aubameyang ends goal drought as Dortmund ease past Freiburg

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been off target of late, but a brace against Freiburg could do wonders for his confidence.

Borussia Dortmund picked up a vital 3-0 win on the road against Freiburg, delivering one of their most comprehensive performances of the season. A week without a midweek fixture saw the Ruhr side remarkably refreshed.

The Black and Yellows enter a busy stretch of matches in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League. It was very important that they managed to carry the momentum from their 3-0 home win against VfL Wolfsburg into that period. As mentioned above, it was one of Dortmund's...

Dortmund's Dembele so far living up to the lofty comparisons

Ousmane Dembele may only be 19 years of age, but he is already one of the top players in the Bundesliga.

Comparisons to elite players are more often than not harmful rather than helpful for young players. Too often has the "next Ibrahimovic," "next Messi" or "next Ronaldo" stagnated somewhere along the line to end up as a rather ordinary footballer somewhere in Europe.

Marko Marin, once described as the "German Messi" when the then-23-year-old moved from Werder Bremen to Chelsea in 2012, is a daunting example of why those labels should be handed out with extreme care. In 2017, the now 27-year-old...

Champs League loss to Atleti exposes Bayer Leverkusen's deficiencies

Man City and Atletico Madrid walk away impressive winners against their respective UCL round of 16 opposition in leg one.
The FC panel react to Atletico Madrid's dominant win over Bayer Leverkusen, and how they've quietly been advancing all year.
BT Sport highlight: A sublime Saul goal set Atletico on their way against Leverkusen, netting 4 crucial away goals to win 4-2 on the night.
A sublime Saul goal set Atletico on their way against Leverkusen, netting 4 crucial away goals to win 4-2 on the night.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen's defeat at home to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night came down to a difference in size, as well as two goals. The Spanish visitors proved eine Nummer zu gross, as they say in Germany -- one size too big.

On another night, the home side could have scored a goal more, get a penalty (Javier Hernandez had a decent claim for an elbow in the face), defended less amateurishly. But for all the good work Roger Schmidt's young side (their average age is below 24) did with the ball, for...

Bayern Munich have had some late luck. Will they need any vs. Hamburg?

Were Bayern lucky vs. Hertha? It doesn't matter. They shouldn't need late goals this weekend.

At the height of Manchester United's astonishing run of success under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Reds became renowned for their uncanny knack of grabbing last-gasp goals that would send opponents reeling. Most famously, they denied Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final, when both United's goals were scored in the dying moments -- otherwise known as "Fergie time."

And perhaps, given their own dramatic Bundesliga feats in 2017, we can rename this passage of play "squeaky Bayern time." The...
