Goran Pandev targets silverware with Genoa after leaving Galatasaray

Goran Pandev says that he intends to end his career on a high by winning some silverware after signing for Genoa.

Pandev, 32, signed for Genoa this summer having made a name for himself by winning a treble with Inter Milan under Jose Mourinho and having picked up a Coppa Italia trophy at both Lazio and Napoli.

The Macedonian striker revealed he was first approached by Genoa in 2011, but he opted for Napoli before eventually landing with the Rossoblu this summer.

"I chose Napoli and I am pleased with that choice," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I really enjoyed myself under [Walter] Mazzarri and [Rafael] Benitez. I just felt it was the right thing to do at the time.

"Genoa are a big club with fantastic fans and I'd like to thank [president Enrico] Preziosi and [coach Gianpiero] Gasperini for wanting me. This is a fantastic city and my family has settled here in just two months. I wanted to come here in January, but I couldn't get away from Galatasaray, but I gave them my word and here I am now."

Pandev insists that he wants to win some silverware with the Rossoblu, to pay them back for the faith they have shown in him this summer.

"If I look back, everything came for me at the right time," he added. "Lazio was my opportunity to become a name, Inter were a side I said 'yes' to after they had courted me for so long.

"At Napoli I found the passion for football that I needed to start over again after winning the treble and Genoa have a lot in common with the Partenopei -- the same passion, but with the knowledge that I have been wanted here and followed, and now loved.

"In the last two years, I had worked very little, playing every three days, what with the Champions League. And then you don't really train in Turkey like you do here.

"I now want to win a trophy and take the Coppa Italia home with me, like I did with Lazio, Inter and Napoli. But one thing is for sure -- we're going to have fun this season.

"I'll reveal a secret: When I left the field against Verona, I've not experienced such emotions for a long time. These people here are special, and we've got to make them happy. For me, Genoa is my last fantastic final frontier in Italy."
