Genoa's Luca Antonelli reveals dream of making move to Liverpool

Genoa defender Luca Antonelli has said he dreams of playing for Liverpool one day.

The former AC Milan player has been a key figure in the Rossoblu's surprise rise to third in Serie A, scoring against Palermo and Cesena from his position on the left of Gian Piero Gasperini's 3-5-2 formation.

Antonelli, who said he believed better was still to come from him and his teammates, told La Gazetta dello Sport: "I dream of playing for Liverpool one day.

"Anfield is like the [Stadio Luigi] Ferraris, with the Kop similar to our Curva Nord. But I'm still young, and there will still be time to talk about that further down the line.

"A few days ago, I heard Lionel Messi say he can still get better -- and if he can say that, then there's no doubt we can too.

"We're having a fantastic season, but we want to carry on this way."

The 27-year-old, who has become captain of Genoa after a "difficult start" at the club due to injuries, is preparing to face his former club Milan, for whom he made his debut on Dec. 23, 2006.

"That was such a great Christmas present," he recalled. "Now I want to gift myself another one -- I'm just three games short of 100 appearances for Genoa, and I hope to stay here for a long time."
