Father of Galatasaray striker Umut Bulut killed in Ankara attacks

Galatasaray have confirmed the father of their Turkey international Umut Bulut was killed in the terrorist bombing in Ankara on Sunday.

Kemal Bulut was one of at least 37 people who died when a car bomb exploded in the Turkish capital.

The father was on his way home after watching his son play against Ankara-based team Genclerbirligi in the city when the blast occurred, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Umut Bulut had returned to Istanbul in the evening unaware that his father had been caught up in the blast and learnt of his father's death as he prepared to start training on Monday.

"Our capital was shaken by the fatal attack yesterday evening which targeted innocent people and we have once again been devastated by the news we received this morning," said a statement from the Istanbul-based club.

"We have learned with sorrow that Umut Bulut's father Kemal Bulut was one of the people to lose their lives.

"The club and the players offer their condolences to Umut Bulut and his family. The pain is very great."

Police officer Nevzat Alagoz, who also perished in the blast, was waiting for a bus to take him home after policing the Galatasaray game, Anadolu reported.
