Galatasaray set to appoint Mustafa Denizli to succeed Hamza Hamzaoglu

Galatasaray have announced they are set to appoint former boss Mustafa Denizli as their new coach.

Denizli, an ex-Turkey international, has managed Gala on two previous occasions in 1987 to 1989 and 1990 to 1992.

The 66-year-old, who has also managed Gala's Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas, is in line to replace Hamza Hamzaoglu, who was dismissed last week despite winning the Turkish Double last season.

"We have reached an agreement in principle and shaken hands," Gala chairman Dursun Ozbek is quoted as saying by AFP. "We will sign the detailed contracts in one to two days."

Denizli added: "The place to risk everything is Galatasaray. I am excited. I opened the parenthesis of my career here and I hope to close them with success."

Denizli, who has also managed Turkey, won the Turkish Super Lig in his first season as Galatasaray boss in 1987-88. He has also won the title with Fenerbahce and Besiktas, making him the only coach to have won it with all three of Istanbul's main clubs.

Galatasaray are currently sitting in third place in the Turkish Super Lig, seven points behind leaders Besiktas, while they are third in Group C in the Champions League, three points off second-placed Atletico Madrid.
